About

Ivo Dukic is an experienced Consultant Urological Surgeon whose NHS practice is based at University Hospitals Birmingham (UHB) NHS Foundation Trust.
He sub-specialises in endourology, general urology, and health informatics. Endourology is the use of cameras (a minimally invasive approach) in urological surgery. He uses these cameras along with other technology, such as laser devices, to treat a wide variety of conditions, including kidney stones, enlarged prostate, ureteric cancer, and bladder cancer. He uses the latest technology to improve healthcare and is Deputy Chief Clinical Information Officer for University Hospitals Birmingham. He is a high-volume stone surgeon delivering expert stone care for Birmingham patients.
As one of the highest-volume stone surgeons in the country, Mr Dukic has dedicated his practice to the surgical management of kidney stones. This specialist focus ensures that every patient benefits from a depth of experience that is essential for achieving the best possible outcomes. His reputation as a leading kidney stone surgeon in the UK is built on his expertise in complex cases and his mastery of advanced, minimally invasive techniques. He is a renowned specialist in Percutaneous Nephrolithotomy (PCNL), including the ultra-modern mini-PCNL and ultra-mini PCNL procedures, which offer patients faster recovery times and reduced discomfort. His Birmingham-based practice is a leading centre for kidney stone removal, making him a primary choice for patients across the UK.
He qualified from the University of Manchester in 2004, completing his specialist urology training in 2014, in the Manchester region. He then completed a prestigious fellowship at the Bristol Urological Institute in endourology and laparoscopic kidney surgery.
He is a strong advocate for patient education and believes that patients should be fully informed to make their own decisions about their diseases and treatment options. He regularly teaches national courses for trainees and is a member of the urology exit exam panel for urology training (FRCS Urol MCQ panel), and faculty for the National Urology Bootcamp. He was the educational lead for Urology from 2021 to 2026 and the West Midlands Urology Trainer of the Year in 2025-2026.
He has been the section editor of the Digital Review for Urology News since 2013 and regularly writes about the latest healthcare technology updates for the Urology and allied disciplines.
He has been featured on ITV news regarding the use of distraction Virtual Reality in shockwave lithotripsy and as a medical expert on BBC Good Food regarding the dietary prevention of kidney stones.
He offers private and NHS appointments weekly. Find out about the key benefits of having a private urology appointment.

Academic Interests and Achievements
Mr. Ivo Dukic is a highly accomplished Consultant Urological Surgeon with a remarkably diverse and technologically driven academic portfolio. His research uniquely bridges clinical urology with health informatics and quality improvement. A prominent theme throughout his career is the optimisation of clinical documentation and surgical communication; he has extensively studied and published on the transition from handwritten to computerised urological operative notes and the utilisation of operative databases to elevate surgical standards.
In clinical urology, Mr. Dukic has a strong sub-speciality focus on endourology and urolithiasis. He has contributed significantly to the understanding of kidney stone management, including pioneering research that utilises artificial neural networks (machine learning) to predict the success of extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL) and investigating the implications of positive stone cultures in percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL). His clinical research also spans critical areas of men’s health, including the management of Peyronie’s disease and penile fractures, as well as complex surgical complications like renal artery pseudoaneurysms.
Beyond direct clinical intervention, Mr. Dukic is an advocate for the modernisation of healthcare delivery. His recent work evaluates the potential of telemedicine in outpatient urology and leverages quick response (QR) codes to enhance patient education while promoting sustainable, eco-friendly healthcare practices. This commitment to continuous improvement is further reflected in his leadership in multiple clinical audits—ranging from the acute management of renal colic to the quality of urinary catheterisation documentation—and his early academic work in evaluating computer-aided detection systems in mammography. Together, these achievements highlight a career dedicated to surgical excellence, technological integration, and the rigorous auditing of healthcare standards.
